Bradford Optimo™ is the best underfloor insulation for all kinds of suspended timber floors. It helps to reduce the energy cost and keep the house warm significantly.
Optimo helps to reduce heat loss in the same way as closing a window in winter. When heat is retained within the home it allows you to run heaters and air conditioners on lower settings. When these appliances work more efficiently they save you on reduced energy costs. Optimo can help you achieve a 6 star energy rating and meets VEET requirements.
Optimo has been designed to fit snugly between the floor joists to make installation easy. It can be fitted to new homes from above the joists using the unique Optimo Saddle system or easily fitted to existing floors from underneath the floor using the Optimo strap system. For more information, see Installing Optimo.
External noise can enter your home anywhere that air can, even through suspended floors. Optimo acts as acoustic as well as thermal insulation. And by helping to reduce reverberation in suspended timber floors, Optimo provides a more solid feel underfoot. Research conducted by CSR shows that Optimo provides easily the best acoustic performance of any underfloor insulation in Australia.
Get under your floor and measure the distance between joists, measuring from the middle of each joist. The widths will most likely equal one of two options; 450mm or 600mm.
The appropriate batt sizes for the above joist spaces are as follows;
Note: for joist spacings between 450mm and 600mm, then a 565mm Optimo batt should be used and cut to suit. In all cases, the insulation should be trimmed so that its 5mm MORE than the space of the opening to allow for a snug fit. You should ensure there are no gaps between the insulation and the joists or abutting edges of insulation. If the insulation is too loose, you can trim a piece from the edge of another batt and use this as a packer.
Determine your R-value by measuring your joist height. The depths will equal one of two options; 75mm or 90mm.
What’s your R-Value?
If you have the option of either R2.1 or R2.5 and you live in a temperate area, then R2.1 is suitable, however, if you reside in a cold or harsher environment, then R2.5 is highly recommended.
